Society of Women Engineers, a global network of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics who serve as catalysts of change throughout the world, have come together to Celebrate achievements and stories.

Held on April 13th, 2024, Engineer Vera Ekpedu, chairperson of, the SWE Africa Advisory Board, and Africa Network commended all networks of the Society of Women Engineers and specially thanked its sponsor AFRITECHII AND SABI AFRICA NETWORK and their effort in sponsoring and supporting the SWE activities for 2024.

In a statement, the Founder, AFRITECHII, AND SABI AFRICA NETWORK and sponsor of the SWE symposium, Rose-Margret Ekeng-itua, reiterated the theme for Women’s History Month ‘Investing Women, Accelerate Progress’, to foster the Society for Women Engineers activity in supporting women, and to accelerate progress in all technical and engineering field.

Additionally, Rose-Margret urged every woman to recognize herself as a leader. According to her “Do not wait for the table, but create the table you desire and invite the people you want to be there”.

Meanwhile, during the question and answer session of the conference,  Corporate Communication Manager, Swipune Affiliate and Global Ambassador, OPhelia Fernandez, reinforced the need to create an environment where members express ideas, feedback, opinions, etc. She added that community engagement and an active communication process are necessary to inspire contributions among members to enhance a sense of belonging and embrace diversity and commitment toward a given goal.

Also, Bundam Wali in her statement on how effective leadership can inspire individuals within a community to take ownership of their role and responsibilities, said a leader must be able to show concern for the welfare of communities, pay attention to their needs, focus on building capacity and bridging every gap that may ignite disparity.

However, Alexis McKittrick, President, SWE urges women to work together to reduce barriers for all women in STEM to further help women’s voices to be heard not just in SWE, but around the world.
