Founder of African Technology and Innovations Institutes (ATII), Prof. Rose-Margaret Ekeng-Itua, has reiterated the importance of addressing climate change across the world at the NARAP(Nigerian Association of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Professionals) Conference.

Focusing on the topic, “Repositioning NARAP and Energy Efficiency in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning”, Prof Ekeng-Itua who is also the Senior Advisor of Women Engineers, African Advisory Board, and Chairperson of the Kpabep Scholarship Program in partnership with UNIDO(write the full meaning) and the Federal Ministry of Environment, shared expert advice with practitioners at the conference held in Abuja to commemorate World Refrigeration Day 2024.

In her speech, Prof. Ekeng Itua commended NARAP for commemorating World Refrigeration Day with such an outstanding event. She noted that the theme, “Temperature Matters,” is befitting for this year’s celebration due to the rise in temperatures worldwide, which has led to natural disasters triggered by climate issues.

She emphasized that temperature matters because it ensures human comfort, preserves food and medicines, and plays a crucial role in helping us live ideal lives. Prof. Ekeng Itua commended the practitioners in refrigeration and air conditioning, referring to them as lifesavers and superheroes due to their vital work in preventing food wastage and ensuring access to refrigerators and cooling infrastructures.

She stressed that if the world continues to overheat without effective cooling mechanisms, we face an existential threat, and our world will change forever. Therefore, practitioners of refrigeration must continue to prioritize cooling the earth through their work.

Temperature matters for innovation, indigenous technologies, and inclusion, and we must all pay attention to it, as it is a crucial part of our existence.
